We’re making a move for Movember and aiming to reduce male suicide
As part of the Mission team supporting Movember, Marian (Client Partnership Director) and Kerry
(Client Finance Coordinator) from Solaris Health will be walking 60 km with their dogs, Bella and Rufus, during November. The aim is to raise awareness and support to help improve the mental health of fathers, brothers and sons and, most importantly, to reduce the alarming rate of male suicide. Why 60 km? That’s 1 km for each of the 60 men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour, across the world. (In the UK, 3 out of 4 suicides are men).
Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up research and motivating men to take action for their health. Male suicide is not an issue that will be easily addressed. But we do know that improving overall mental health and helping men establish better social connections can help reduce the risk. Working towards a world where men and boys are comfortable having conversations about the big things in life is central to the Movember mission. And by 2030, the aim is to have reduced the rate of male suicide by 25%.
So, we’re pleased to be doing our bit to support the guys. You can support us by donating to Movember at:
